RED BELLY BLACK SHIRAZ 2002

The Sunday Times
February 1, 2004

FOOD & WINE

The red-bellied black snake is a scary inhabitant of the bush around Renmark and certainly a colorful part of Australiana. Another colorful part of Australiana, this shiraz is affordable and enjoyably drinkable. Deep blackcurrant and red berry flavours abound. The Tannins are soft, ripe ad chewable while the overall balance is very pleasing. It would sit well with a fine steak of the Barbie.

This is name after the snakes which abound much to the horror of grape pickers - around Angove’s Renmark winery in the SA Riverland. The Angove family sourced fruit from the cooler Wrattonbully and padthaways areas of SA to blend with grapes from their warm Riverland vineyard to create this delicious quaffer. It is ripe and full-bodied with noticeable alcoholic warmth wrapped around a velvety textured palate.
