E
& E Black Pepper 2002 Vintage New Release
New
vintage of one of Australia’s most acclaimed wines released
Gonzales,
Calif. – Barossa Valley Estate has released the 2002
vintage of one of Australia’s most lauded wines—the
E & E Black Pepper Shiraz. Held as a benchmark of Barossa
Valley Shiraz, the E & E Black Pepper Shiraz represents
the pinnacle of what Australia has to offer lovers and collectors
of great red wine.
“We’re
extremely proud of our E & E Black Pepper Shiraz,”
says Winemaker Stuart Bourne. “The success year-after-year
of this wine is really a credit to the many talented growers
and to the exceptional fruit with which I have the privilege
to work. This is especially true of the 2002 vintage, as the
fruit was outstanding and it is truly one of the best vintages
we’ve ever made."
Barossa
Valley Estate is unique to the Australian winemaking world
in that it is a 50/50 joint venture between a grape grower
cooperative and a corporation—Hardy Wine Company. This
unique partnership, with the growers as stakeholders in the
winery, encourages them to provide the very best fruit possible.
The fruit for the E & E Black Pepper Shiraz is traditionally
sourced from low-cropped vineyards, where the average vine
age is around 60 years old. Fruit is carefully selected from
these old, gnarled, low-yielding vines, giving fruit of exceptional
concentration, character, elegance, and finesse.
Named
after two of the founding German growers, Elmore Raehr and
Elmore Shultz, the E & E Black Pepper Shiraz is a wine
of powerful yet elegant character, rich peppery Shiraz flavors
and oak complexity. The 2002 E & E Black Pepper Shiraz
is available nationally for a suggested retail price of $85.
Previous
vintages of E & E Black Pepper Shiraz have been well received
by United States critics and consumers: Wine Enthusiast named
the 1998 vintage the best Shiraz in the world, Wine Spectator
has given the wine an average score of 94 points since the
1995 vintage, and ranked the 1996 alongside Penfolds Grange
and Henchke’s Hill of Grace. The 2002 vintage is no
exception, having recently scored 97 points from Wine Spectator,
the highest score yet earned by an Australian wine this vintage.

Valley Estate is imported by Pacific Wine Partners, a Constellation
