2001 WillowBend
89 pts
The
2001 WillowBend (an intriguing blend of 45% Merlot,
32% Shiraz and 23% Cabernet Sauvignon) does not have
quite enough complexity to merit an outstanding rating.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed it for its terrific fruit presence,
nicely integrated toasty oak, dense, plum, fig, licorice,
and currant notes, medium to full body and easy going,
consumer-friendly style. Enjoy it over the next 5 –
6 years.

2001 St. Jakobi
90 pts
More
serious is the 2001 Shiraz St. Jakobi. Fashioned from
28 – year old vines, it is loaded with fruit as
well as alcohol (15%). However the alcohol is well hidden
by the wealth of glycerin and concentration. It is a
full bodied, deep, chewy, fragrant Shiraz with excellent
purity, a layered mouthfeel, and a long, concentrated
finish. Drink it over the next 8 – 10 years.

2001 Oscar Semmler
92 pts
The
most serious of the commercially available cuvees is
the 2001 Shiraz Oscar Semmler (550). Its inky purple
color is followed by big, full-bodied aromas of creosote,
blackberries and white flowers, and sweet, concentrated,
dense, powerful, pure flavours. Interestingly, this
offering is aged for 24 months in both new and one-year
old French hogsheads, which are much bigger than standard
barrels.

Php 3,000/ per bottle
