BROOKLAND VALLEY VERSE 1
REVIEWS

Drink Now – White
Brookland Valley Verse 1 Chardonnay 2001

This Margaret River wine has soft aromas and flavours which, nonetheless, make a statement. Grapefruit, white peach, nectarine, hints of automatic spice and sweet vanillin oak all contribute and do so harmony, with a crisp, clean finale. Fillets of whiting seared in a lightly buttered pan, would be an ideal match.

Drink Now – Red
Brookland Valley Verse 1 Shiraz

This is a deliciously approachable wine from the vintage of 2000. The nose is enticing with soft, sweet earthy perfumes of fruit and spice. The palate is juicy, with red and dark berry favours. But it is given elegance by fine tannins and touch of intrigue by Sichuan pepper spice, finishing with soft definite acid. It is and elegant wine to enjoy with oriental spicy beef dishes.

Brookland Valley Verse 1 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2001

Now this is very smart wine showing the continued development of this label from Brookland Valley in Margaret River. It has a seductive, alluring bouquet with a bowl of tropical fruit and fine, grassy characters. A fine crisp, lingering palate. Super wine.

Halliday’s Choice

Brookland Valley Verse 1 Cabernet Merlot 2000

A neat piece of labeling inspired by the bronze statue of pan at Brookland Valley and Verse 1, music composed by Australia’s leading flautist, Jane Rutter. It’s a neat wine offering excellent value, with a fragrant spicy-leafy-juicy bouquet and an attractive palate led by lively berry fruit, ripe tannins and nicely controlled oak. The elegant side of Margaret River style.

The Top Drop

Brookland Valley Verse 1 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2003

Typically fresh and zippy wine with quality fresh fruit showing the way. One of the finest wines produced under this label, this is one of the most reliable on the market at this price point. Both varieties’ virtues are magnified into something special.

Brookland Valley Verse 1 Cabernet Merlot 2001

This is the partner to the highly successful Semillon sauvignon blanc and loses nothing in comparison. High quality cool climate fruit goes into this from vineyards throughout Margaret River. The blackcurrant and deep plum provides an exquisite basis for a wine that is all class.

What a class act this is. Lovely, soft palate of rich fruit and beautifully matched spicy oak. Real mouthfeel from the full mid palate through to a long finish. One for the cellar.

Brookland Valley Verse 1 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2003

This is the second labels form one of Margaret River’s better producer. I’ve consistently enjoyed whites from Brookland Valley thanks to its particularly good patch of sauvignon blanc vines, which regularly deliver intense fruit. This is a pale and youthful, with fresh grassy, green, citrus – skin aromas- the sauvignon blanc is particularly prominent. The palate is lively, with bit of attractive mineral complexity to add interest. It was perhaps a little green when I tasted it, but it shows good promise and will probably be perfect about the time you are reading this.
